First Responders’ Program
What to expect from our First Responder Program
- Treatment specialized for police, fire and rescue, corrections, and probation and parole
- Work with a physical therapist with firsthand knowledge and experience as a first responder
- Receive treatment for both on and off duty injuries with plans personalized to your needs
- Not all injuries require you to be placed on light duty and many can be treated while you continue to carry out your duties
- Screenings/consultations to determine if your injury would require physical therapy, a referral to a specialist, or if it is manageable through a home exercise program
- Performed either at our clinic or at a location convenient for your group, department, squad, or unit
- Timely appointments to decrease the delay in the recovery process
What to expect from our First Responder Program
Physical Therapy vs. Surgery
We offer physical therapy before you get a joint replaced (we call it “Pre-Hab”) to make sure you are in the best shape possible before your surgery,
so that your after-surgery recovery is as smooth and quick as possible.
For example, just think how hard it will be to use crutches or a walker during your recovery if you don’t build up your arm strength in advance!
- Studies have shown that physical therapy can lower the need for surgeries and decrease the need for the prescription of opioids
- Even if surgery is necessary, there is evidence that shows performing pre-operative physical therapy can improve your outcomes post-operatively
