Common Workplace Injuries

Delaware workplace-Injury

Although it is more common to see workers compensation injuries in more physically demanding jobs, they can occur at just about any profession. The following are some of the most common injuries sustained at work:

  • Strains of the lumbar and/or thoracic spine
  • Shoulder strains
  • Shoulder impingement
  • Disc herniations and generalized low back pain
  • Overuse and repetitive strain injuries
  • Fall injuries or other job site related trauma

Claim Process

Delaware Workers' comp claim process

We understand that the workers’ compensation claim process can be very confusing and we are here to help as much as we can. The first step after a work injury is to file a claim with your employer then see a doctor. Your doctor will recommend the next steps whether that be imaging, physical therapy, or a modified return to work protocol.

Here at Performance Physical Therapy, we are here to help you! Upon scheduling an appointment with our office, we will collect your claim information so that there is a consistent flow of information to your adjuster. In order to prepare for your physical therapy appointment, do the following:

  • Bring your referral from the doctor
  • Bring your claim information: claim number, adjuster contact information
  • Be prepared to provide your work injury date and your employer’s information

How Can Physical Therapy Help?

Delaware Physical therapy

Regardless of the type of injury, physical therapists can help! We understand that each person and each injury is different. During your first appointment, the physical therapist will take the time to hear how you were injured and evaluate your symptoms, strength, and range of motion.

Upon forming a diagnosis, they will work closely with you and your doctor to help decrease your pain, strengthen your body, and get you back to work as soon as possible pain-free with a job-specific rehab program in mind. Your journey will typically begin with focused treatment to resolve the acute symptoms related to the specific injury while being provided a movement exercise program to restore range of motion and mobility.

The final phase of recovery is to transition into a work conditioning/strengthening program to prepare to person/body for return to work demands, depending on the occupation requirements. This will ensure full recovery and minimize re-injury concerns with transitioning back to a demanding physical job.
